A standard split air-conditioning system has its components in two or more separate locations.
A split system’s condensing unit is often located outdoors, and its evaporating unit is placed indoors. Often, the evaporator is installed in a central air handler cabinet that is connected to a network of ducts.
Some of the ducts are used to deliver conditioned air, and other ducts are used to return air to the air handler. Cooled and dehumidified air is distributed to the conditioned spaces through a series of supply ducts and returned to the evaporator through return ducts.
This arrangement of using forced air to cool a conditioned space describes a central air conditioning system.
